Newsreaders

Newsreaders is a satire of the network television newsmagazine genre and explores the vital issues that actually don't affect us every day, from hard-hitting investigations to harder-hitting heartwarming profiles. The series was created by the creative team behind Childrens Hospital: executive producers Rob Corddry, Jonathan Stern, and David Wain, with former The Daily Show with Jon Stewart co-executive producer Jim Margolis acting as showrunner.

Newsreaders aired on Adult Swim from 2013-2015.

"I hesitate to quote any more jokes, but Newsreaders is full of good ones—riffs on formula, weird character bits, pure absurdity... and with that Daily Show cred, Newsreaders naturally nails the form, fitting right in on Adult Swim’s shadow network." - The A.V. Club

"Newsreaders is jam-packed with great jokes, and the show's first two episodes find it full of potential." - Splitsider

"Newsreaders is hilarious. I started laughing in the first thirty seconds and the jokes didn’t stop till the very end." - My Entertainment World

By Liz Ohanesian (Paste) - 1/23/15

Xandra Dent knows how to make an impression. Earlier in this season of Newsreaders, the fictional reporter, played by Alison Becker (Parks and Recreation), traveled the world to learn the story behind the iPhone. As she hopped from country to country, the tech-savvy and culturally insensitive character turned up in a wide array of outrageous outfits. Becker says she’s a send up of G4-style TV reporting. There’s also a little Vice in there for good measure; fictional host Reagan Biscayne makes a reference to this at the end of the segment. It’s first-person reporting gone awry, and tech reporting that tries too hard to appeal to mainstream audiences. Also, it’s not real news. READ MORE

By Kyle Anderson (Entertainment Weekly) - 10/23/14

Considering the bland inanity of CNN and the state of mind that enhances Adult Swim, it's hard to delineate between the ''real'' news and the lethal satirical absurdity of NEWSREADERS. Hint: Only NEWSREADERS has the delightfully intense Ray Wise as an Andy Rooney-esque social-commentary curmudgeon. A- (Thursdays at Midnight on Adult Swim)
